Miriam Zelenková comes to us from Brno, Czech Republic and is a Junior at Columbus Catholic High School in Marshfield, Wisconsin where she was recently recognized as Student of the Month for February. "Throughout the month, we focused on the virtue of fortitude. Miriam Zelenkova has displayed fortitude since arriving here this fall. She has a positive attitude, and she is willing to try many new things. She values her faith, and she has shown she is courageous by leaving her family for a year to spend it with us. Keep up the good work Miriam!"
For school activities, Miriam has participated in the Mission Club, food collections, and Bowl-A-Thon. She was also notably involved in athletics: on the volleyball C-team, Miriam started every game and stood out for her leadership, positivity, and encouragement towards her teammates. She also joined the basketball team, despite having never played before, with a determination to learn the sport. Although much running was involved, Miriam never considered quitting, and during the last 10 minutes of the final home game of the season, she succeeded in scoring 2 points on 4 free throw attempts. In the community, Miriam delivers meals for the Home-Delivered Meals program one Sunday per month. She also previously helped with fundraising efforts towards the March for Life trip, which she also attended personally. She plans to speak about her experiences for the Knights of Columbus during their mass honoring the Day of the Unborn Child in March. At church, Miriam volunteers her time by singing monthly in the choir. In the past, she helped with set-up for the Mardi Gras pot luck and the Ash Wednesday “Bread & Broth” meal. Miriam also volunteered with many activities for the annual Fall Festival: preparing food, working the childrens’ games, helping with set-up and clean-up, and doing anything else she was asked to do.
